1 out of a Billion

Abhinav Singh Bindra won a gold medal in shooting in the Olympics - the first time India has won an individual gold. He is being pampered by everyone, which is how it should be. In a country starved of deserving sporting icons, it is great to have someone to look upto. He represented the aspirations of a billion people and came up trumps. All said and done, it is truly shocking that we have not won more medals in the Games. The poor state of affairs in sports administration, the virtually non-existent infrastructure, the public fixation with cricket, the lack of encouragement to children to pick up sports as a career have all played their parts. We need a change, a change in our attitude, a change that only we can bring upon ourselves.
