Sachin - the GOD

Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar has done it. He is now the highest run scorer in Test cricket. He overtook Brian Lara, his long time foe on the cricket field and a good friend off it. Tendulkar has been God's gift to the cricketing world - a supremely talented individual, who has been an impeccable ambassador of the game throughout the world.

I admire Sachin a lot - he has those middle class values which have helped him keep his feet firmly on the ground even though he is worshipped by a billion Indians and countless others worldwide. He has faced tremendous pressure from the expectations from all and sundry since the tender age of 16, since he first represented India in Test cricket, but has never cracked under it. He has always been the perfect idol to all.

He will retire after a couple of years, but his legend will exist forever. I am indeed privileged to have lived during the Tendulkar era...
